Thoughts on Algebra
My friend and I were talking the other night about a lot of things but the only thing that I can remember clearly is when we talked about Algebra.
I’ll be honest with you. I took Algebra twice. I dropped out of the subject back in college after attending the third class in a month. Then I had to take it during my second year just because I really really had to, or else they won’t let me move on. I don’t see any sense in adding up or multiplying letters to get a number. Letters are for creating words, phrases, and sentences. Numbers are for counting, adding, subtracting, dividing, and multiplying. Not the other way around.
I don’t know anyone who loves Algebra. I don’t know anyone who appreciates taking Algebra back in high school and college. Frankly, I think it’s a waste of money. If I had a choice, I would never have paid for Algebra when I was in college. I think colleges and universities should stop charging people to study Algebra. From what I remember, Algebra’s a mandatory subject. I guess it’s because people hate the subject! I think schools should pay students to study Algebra. Better yet, just abolish the damn subject! It’s useless to the majority of the human race!
The only time Algebra’s going to be very very useful to someone is when a Math teacher goes berserk, points a gun at a student or someone, and says, “Solve for X or I’ll fucking kill you, asshole!”
Then again… I hate Algebra so much, I probably will be glad to just die than solve for X!
